He took a step forward and Neville dropped Trevor the toad, who leapt out of sight.
"It's not a stoat sandwich, is it?" said Harry anxiously, and at last Hagrid gave a weak chuckle. "Nah. Dumbledore gave me the day off yesterday ter fix it. 'Course, he shoulda sacked me instead -- anyway, got yeh this..."
I bet you'll think twice about breaking a school rule again, won't you, eh?" he said, leering at them. "Oh yes... hard work and pain are the best teachers if you ask me.... It's just a pity they let the old punishments die out... hang you by your wrists from the ceiling for a few days, I've got the chains still in my office, keep 'em well oiled in case they're ever needed.... "Oh, good," said Harry. "Who is it?"
"You let the troll in?"
"Never," said Hagrid irritably, "try an' get a straight answer out of a centaur. Ruddy stargazers. Not interested in anythin' closer'n the moon."
"Snape was trying to save me?"
Dumbledore sighed very deeply this time.
"Be warned, Potter -- any more nighttime wanderings and I will personally make sure you are expelled. Good day to you."
Hermione's lip trembled, and she suddenly dashed at Harry and threw her arms around him.
